VATS Above and Beyond Awards logo

Do you know a member of the Texas State University community who has been exceptional in their support of Texas State student veterans?  

VATS is seeking nominations for Texas State University students, faculty, staff and/or Offices who have gone above and beyond in their support, advocacy and empowerment of Texas State student veterans. 

Nominations anonymous and can be submitted by any member of Texas State University.

Award Categories

Above & Beyond Award - Faculty and Staff

  • Nominee(s) must be a full-time Texas State Staff or Faculty who has been exceptional in their support of Texas State student veterans.
  • Those whom have completed the Service to School: Helping Student Veterans Succeed at Texas State Training will be highly considered.
  • One (1) faculty and one (1) staff award will be awarded.

Above & Beyond Award - Student

  • Nominee(s) must be a student who has been exceptional in their support of Texas State student veterans.
  • Students at each degree level can be nominated (i.e. undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral).

Veteran Friendly Office (VFO) Award

  • In order to qualify, the nominated office(s) must have at least 50% of Full-Time Employees (FTE) trained via the Transitioning from Service to School: Helping Student Veterans Succeed at Texas State Training and have been exceptional in their support of Texas State student veterans.

 

Selection Process

Important dates:

  • Nominations Open Now
  • Nominations Close: Tuesday, November 1, 2022
  • Presentation of Award:
    • Fall - Friday, November 11, 2022 from 10:50 a.m. to 11:35 a.m. in TXST Quad during the Veterans Commemoration Day

Overview:

  • Nomination are reviewed and selected by VATS Executive Board (Awards Committee).
    • Any Awards Committee Member who is nominated must abstain from any discussions about and decisions made in the specific category for which they have been nominated.
    • Any member of the Awards Committee who nominates another staff member must abstain from any discussions about and decisions made in the specific category for which they have submitted a nomination for.
  • There are no limitation on number of nominations per nominee.
  • Only members of Texas State University can submit nomination(s).
  • The Awards Committee will select recipients for each award exclusively based on the information provided through nomination forms.
  • After selection, award recipients will be notified via an official congratulatory letter from VATS with date, time and location for award presentation. A plaque with name and inscription will be presented to award recipients.

 

Presentation of Awards

  • Fall Semester: Veterans Day Commemoration (hosted by Student Foundation)
  • Spring Semester: Veterans Graduation Reception
